Ingredients

TOPPING

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted

FILLING

  • 6 baking apples, peeled, cored, and sliced 1/2-inch thick
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest

Optional Ingredients

  • Vanilla ice cream or sweetened whipped cream

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine dry topping ingredients. Add melted butter and stir with a fork. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, toss apples with sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle with lemon juice and zest; toss again. Spread in a 9 x 13-inch pan. Sprinkle topping mixture over sliced apples.
  4. Bake at 350°F for 30 minutes or until apples are tender and top is golden brown and bubbly. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
